On 7 February 2009 the worst bushfires in Australia's history affected many parts of rural Victoria. A large number of these fires were caused by the assets of electricity distribution companies. If found to be negligent, these power companies will be required to compensate fire victims for their losses, so far as money is able to do so. Obtaining compensation for bushfire victims is specialist legal work.

Maddens Lawyers are acting for the victims of the Coleraine, Horsham, Weerite-Pomborneit and Beechworth-Mudgegonga bushfires and have been granted leave to appear before The 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission in relation to the causes and circumstances of these fires. Maddens Lawyers have cross examined witnesses, introduced new evidence and delivered Written and Oral Submissions to the Royal Commission.

The Bushfire Department at our legal firm was founded in 1983 following the Ash Wednesday Bushfires of that year. For the victims of those fires our legal firm was responsible for the issue of over 400 legal proceedings, obtaining full compensation for those fire victims.
